Why You Need to Catch the Ball in Shape

If Tom Hudson, Head Coach at Sale Sharks Women, could only give you one top tip on improving your catch-carry-pass skills this would be it. Focus on catching the ball in shape.

Catching the ball in shape allows you to get the ball in your hands in a passing position ready to go before a defender can put you under pressure.

If you don’t catch the ball in shape, you have to spend time adjusting your hands before trying to make a spin or push pass. It gives the defender time to come and get you, and means that even if you do get the ball away it’s likely to impact the quality of your pass.

However if you catch the ball in shape and watch it into your hands, using your elbows and ten points of contact, you’re able to execute your pass effectively whenever you’re ready.
