3 Most Common Tackling Mistakes

Here are the three big mistakes players make when making tackles.

  1. Tackling too high - all too often players go too high making tackles around nipple height and above. It's really important for both safety and tackle effectiveness that we drop our height through our knees and our hips so we're making tackles nice and low around the midriff area.

  2. Lunging into the tackle - try to focus on getting your leg in nice and close, so you’re in an effective place to make the tackle. You don't want to be lunging from far away and end up trying to grab a shirt with your hands.

  3. Forgetting the non-active arm - a lot of players will get their right arm through really nice and strong, but then leave their left arm just hanging by their side. Get that non-active arm through, make it active in your ring-of-steel, and focus on squeezing the attacker to make your tackle effective.
